Dr.R. Suresh Swamiyar Kaani
A MULTI FACETED AND SKILLED PERSONAGE
Dr.R.Suresh Swamiar Kaani is one of the
most skilful persons in the politics and administration in Tamilnadu.
By birth he belongs to the hill tribes
of kaanikkarar and has added his tribes name to his name according to the
tradition of his tribe and now he is known as Suresh Swamiyar Kaani. it is notable that for
his primary education he used to walk to the school and for his higher studies
he walked 40 kms a day to reach the government tribal school at Peachipparai. He
is a great orator and his orations in Tamil keeps the audience spell bound
because of the way he mixes jokes with serious matter. On hearing his talks
either in the political or debate, religious, literature fields, you will feel
as if you have walked into a living library of knowledge,
At the age of 17 he led a hunger
strike on behalf of his tribal community in front of the collectorate. that was
the beginning of his oratory skills. Now it can be heard not just in the state
forums but in the international arenas as well
In the religious platform he speaks
with the multi-faith research backgroud and lakhs have benefited out of his
preaching. He has taken part in many debates conducted by the likes of Prof.
Solomon Papaya, Thindukal Lioni, Thiru Gnana Sambandham, Dr.Peroli, Avani Madasamy and Dr. Iraianbu.IAS and won many laurels. it is notable that a person of such
caliber serves as the voice of the downtrodden.

WHO CAUGHT THE ATTENTION OF PURATCHI THALAIVI
on 23.12.2010 at a Christmas
function in Arumanai where Puratchi Thalaivi Dr.J.Jayalalitha Amma was the chief guest
Suresh Swaaaamiyar Kaani place before her three demands, the chief among them
being subsidizing the holy trip to Jerusalem for Christians along the same
lines as Hajj Pilgrims. Amma on her part
when she delivered her speech, stated that if she will come to power she will implement
the demands placed before her by Thumbi Suresh Kaani. in 2011 when she came to
power, she made true her promise granting the Christian community subsidy for
holy travel. this is a feather in the oratorical cap of Dr. Suresh Swamiyar Kaani.
SURESH SWAMIYAR KAANI AND THIRUVALUVAN MALAI.
In 2007 at a
debate on Thirukural organized by the Thirukural Research Centre Dr. Suresh
Swamiyar Kaani spoke that while there is a statue for Thiruvaluvar in the sea
near Kanyakumari do you know that there is also a hill by the name of
Thiruvaluvan Malai Koovaikadumalai range which happens to be my birth place. Dr.
Suresh Swamiyar Kani is the honey produce of this hill. Dr. Padmanaban who was
a listener in the crowd who taking notes while Kaani was talking later published
in his magazine and claimed that he had discovered Thiruvaluvan Malai and won
many awards and prizes. like this many have benefitted out of his informative
talks.
SURESH SWAMIYAR KAANI IN THE PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS.
in the 1996 parliamentary elections
Dr. Suresh Swamiyar Kani contested the elections from the Nagercoil constituency
on behalf of the Kaani Tribal. he canvassed throughout the constituency, met
people of all walks of life and explained to them the problems of the Kaani
people in particular and asked for their support. Though Kaani got less votes he
became well known in the constituency and the people got to know more about the
Kaani tribes.
SURESH
SWAMIYAR KAANI AND MUSIC
Suresh Swamiyar Kaani plays a variety
of instruments. he also conducts music festivals or a grand scale. apart from
this he writes songs and sets music scores also.
His father Thiru Rajaiah is also an accomplished musician who plays the Tabla,
Harmonium, Mirthangam, Thavil, Bulbulthara and banjos. he is not a Kaani. He is
from Panaippuram Village of Theni District and hails from the family of such
eminent personalities as Pavalar
Varatharajan, Ilayaraja, Baskar and Gangai Amaranin.
1970 he served as
forest guard of the forest department at Keeriparai of Kanyakumari District.
during this time he met and married Valliamma
a Kaani Tribal. Suresh Swamiyar Kaani is
their eldest son who was nurtured by his father in all the facets of music in a
systematic way and as the result of this Suresh Kaani is an acclaimed musician
of national repute.
Though basically he is a tabla player
God has endowed in him the gift of playing other musical instruments with equal
acumen as well.
Having the experience of working with
leading music Compossers of Tamil nadu and Kerala, he himself is an accomplished music
composer.
LYRICIST, MUSIC
COMPOSSER AND SINGER
Dr. Suresh Swamiyar Kaani has compiled the flock lore songs of the tribes
that the great musicians forgot to notice or sing and set music to them without
disturbing the cultural aspects of the songs and songs. these songs have been
published under such titles as Kaatupura Paadalkal, Kaanikaaran Kavithaikal,
Vithaiyaga Vilunthavan, Kaadukalin Kaavalan and Mun Thontriyavan.

Dr. Suresh Swamiyar Kani works
tirelessly for the social, cultural, economical and political rights of the
tribals, the downtrodden, the Dalits and the marginalized without fear or
favour. Through multifarious media like forums newsletters, agitations, the net, etc., he caries out his crusading
work for the welfare of the people who look at him as a light for help. many of
his demans with the government have been fulfilled by the government.
